Melano was founded by an Australian-born Chinese woman raised in Melbourne — a brand written at the meeting of a laid-back Australian life and the long, careful tradition of Eastern herbal medicine.
She grew up alongside the precious botanicals that anchor our work — Fo-Ti, Biota Leaf, Soapberry, Usman herb — plants that carry, in their oldest sense, the meaning of balance and gentle care.
A long journey across Asia clarified what mild plant-based hair care could be. Nourishment over harsh cleansing. Balance over excessive treatment. Long-term wellness over instant effect. That insight became the spirit of Melano.

Our research team draws on time-honoured plant skincare traditions to develop preparations that are mild enough for daily use and structured enough to keep the scalp's own ecology intact. Slow extraction and careful proportioning retain the active essence of Fo-Ti, Biota Leaf, Soapberry and Usman herb — and nothing redundant beyond that. Melano stands for simplicity without compromise — Eastern herbal essence joined to the Australian natives we grew up on, tea tree and eucalyptus among them. Infused with Fo-Ti, Biota Leaf, Soapberry and Usman herb, our shampoo bars hold scalp balance gently, free of silicone and harsh surfactants. Hair care, in the end, is also a small ritual — a quiet return of vitality to the scalp and the hair, in keeping with the way nature and modern life can comfortably coexist.
